This week’s Friday Feature highlights Spencer Lynx, an award-winning sports charity creating opportunities for young people to access hockey while building confidence, skills and a strong sense of belonging.
Founded in 2011, Spencer Lynx works with schools across London to identify young people who may not otherwise have the opportunity to take part in sport. Since launching their programme in 2019, over 500 children have participated, with many continuing into mainstream hockey clubs and some going on to represent their county.
With support from the Kerslake Robshaw Foundation, young people take part in a two-year programme that combines technical hockey training with teamwork and personal development. Alongside developing their skills on the pitch, participants build confidence, resilience and social skills that support them beyond sport.
The impact is clear. After just one year on the programme, 74% of participants improved their fitness, 96% improved agility and 63% reported improved overall wellbeing.
A parent shared:
“This experience has been incredible and helped my child grow in confidence and manage their anxiety. I can hardly recognise her from the beginning of the journey.”
At the Kerslake Robshaw Foundation, we’re proud to support organisations like Spencer Lynx, helping young people build confidence, resilience and a sense of belonging through sport.
